EPA: Crossgates Macy's Lights Tossed Improperly. They got caught tossing commercial-quantities of mercury vapor lamps and florcent bulbs in contrast to federal law.
Mercury is a potent neurotoxin and fluorescent light bulbs containing it must be recycled as a toxic waste under state law to prevent mercury from getting into the environment.
EPA spokesman John Senn said today that Macy's workers at Crossgates and a store in Garden City improperly threw away an undetermined number of bulbs in 2007. While the ultimate destination of the bulbs was not available, EPA was not issuing any health warnings linked to the incidents, he said.
I never liked Macy's to start out with. They are no good.
