Crisis Events and Freedom

Freedom is in peril. It's under siege everyday. See, I have the start of an ACLU or NRA ad in the beginning of this piece of fodder. But guess what kids—it's true!

I intend this rather short piece of fodder to be a statement of principle. Here is goes:

Crisis Events and Focusing Events are the greatest threat to American society today. By focusing our attention on selected events we are distorting our perspective and creating bad public policy that unnecessarily demises our freedom.

That's a pretty short definition, in the grand scheme of things. But I think it has a profound effect on the way I think, and more importantly, on the reality of our world.

It's what this whole site is about—that definition is a little bit more precise then other ones I've given in the past—it's an accumulation of all my ideas I've written in the past.

The examples are extensive. Look at my ideas on high school violence/shootings. Look at my seemingly endless thoughts on burn barrels and ATVs. Even my discussion of agriculture seems to play on this definition (in a remote sort of way).

If I where writing a book, I'd make sure that paragraph went on the first page of the introduction. So hopefully you understand better where I'm coming from.
