Three Questions of Theory

state office campus

Let's ask some large questions of political theory and psychology. Today the author chooses to briefly mention three questions and look at the questions behind the question. We will consider:

  1. Value Formation
  2. Violating Our Own Values
  3. Politics in an Era of Political Correctness

Value Formation

  1. Do we live in a society without any real values?
  2. Did god leave it all up to the individual to decide what is right?

Nietzche was famous for his claims that society was valueless. We know that not to be true. Values are human created and are developed through experience. Our institutions instill values on people partially through the creation of policy and partially by defining experience. What makes us so special as individuals is that our experience is so different. That gives us the ability to critically analyize things from our own experience. That gives us diversity in solution.

Violating our Own Values

  1. Why must our own values by violated?
  2. How can value violations be tolerated?

We must often violate our own values. Mainstream society demands a level of conformity. We can not have men stopping at green lights and women stopping at red lights. A car accident would quickly occur of that was the case. Similarly, economic reality demands conformity in the need to work some kind of job to bring food to the table. We can tolerate such violation of values by finding ways to sublime our own desires into things that are acceptable to our own lives.

Politics in an Era of Political Correctness

  1. What is politics?
  2. What is the effect of Political Correctness?
  3. What is the role of opinion?

Many have written on the first question. Carl Schmidt is the author's favorite writer. He basically stated that all is political. You can't escape politics. Yet, some have tried to remove politics by using political correctness as a solution. Political correctness is a dangerous trend in politics. If somebody is a 'nigger', then call him that. Language should be free and open, and politics should be conducts with no hold bar. You should do everything in your power to change people's beliefs to go along with your own. Likewise, all opinions should be your own and without limitation. They should be considered as natural as waking up in the morning.
